Custom funds

Build your own fund

Custom funds are live for everyone. Hand-pick stocks, set target weights, and Amal treats it like any other fund: dividend reinvestment, scheduled investing, rebalancing. The guided builder is at /funds/create.

Every save is checked against compliance ratings and your personal blacklist, so you can't accidentally build a haram fund. If a stock you picked later goes non-compliant, we notify you instead of auto-selling. It's your fund, so the call is yours. Filtered catalog funds keep their automatic removal.

Building is free on every plan. Investing in one requires Pro. Selling and rebalancing are never gated, so you can't get trapped in a position.

Every custom fund gets a public page: performance against a benchmark (SPY by default), allocation and sector breakdowns, and compliance badges on every holding. Anyone with the link can copy your fund into their own account in one click. Returns are anchored to the date the fund was created, not a cherry-picked backtest window.

Compare charts against anything

Fund charts and the home portfolio chart now have a Compare option: overlay the original unfiltered fund, SPY, QQQ, VTI, or any catalog fund, several at once if you like. Comparisons switch the chart to percent change so different price levels stay comparable. "How much did halal filtering cost me vs SPY" is now a two-click question.

Pending orders on the dashboard

In June, a third of manual orders took 5 to 30 minutes between click and fill, and the app showed nothing in that window. A new In Progress card shows your pending and executing orders live, and your available cash shows the slice queued buys are about to spend. When an order completes, cash and positions update the moment it leaves the list.

Improved

Closed positions

Fund details now have a collapsed Closed positions section: everything you've fully exited, with close dates and realized P&L. Your live holdings stay clean, and the numbers are there when Zakat season comes around.

Pasting a shared custom fund link into WhatsApp or iMessage used to show a blank generic card. Each shared fund now gets its own title, description, and a preview image with the fund name, top tickers, and compliance summary.

  • Editing a custom fund's holdings now prompts you to rebalance so your positions catch up to the new targets
  • Scheduled rebalances are labeled "Rebalance" instead of a confusing "$0"
  • TCAI joined the fund catalog
  • Password changes are now rate limited, and we hardened the encryption on stored broker credentials
  • Fund overview charts for users with custom filter rules were recomputed from scratch every day. They're cached properly now, so they open fast

Fixed

  • Connecting an Alpaca account could fail with "OAuth request failed" or hang on "Please wait". The callback page was exchanging the one-time code twice. Fixed, and the page now hard-navigates to the dashboard once connected
  • After a large invest into a fund with over a hundred holdings, the dashboard could stay stale for up to an hour. We were polling Alpaca for every order at once and blowing through its rate limit. Polling is batched now
  • Physically backed ETFs like GLDM showed as "not investable" when bought as an individual stock, even though they're buyable through the fund flow. The stock path now checks the same list the fund path does
  • Fund holdings tables scroll horizontally on mobile instead of clipping
  • If you added Amal to your home screen, the back button now stays inside the app, and stale cached pages are gone
