Better charts and biweekly investing
August 31, 2026
New
Biweekly recurring investments
Recurring buys now run every two weeks, alongside daily, weekly, and monthly. Pick the weekday and it fires pre-market on that day every other week, counted from the date you set it up. Requested by a reader who gets paid on a biweekly cycle, which turns out to be a lot of you.
Profit on the chart
The Compare menu on the home portfolio chart and every fund chart has a new Profit option: your value minus what you put in, at every point in time. It plots on its own axis so it isn't flattened against the portfolio total. Same definition as the gain/loss column in the fund CSV export.
Benchmarks that play fair
Comparing against SPY used to overlay the raw index, which flatters or punishes you depending on when you happened to deposit. The overlay now simulates buying the benchmark with your exact deposits on your exact dates and selling on withdrawals, so "would I have done better in SPY" is answered on the same dollars.
Multiple copies of a shared fund
You can now hold up to ten linked copies of the same shared custom fund, each with its own money and its own auto-rebalance setting. Copies stay linked to the source: when the author edits holdings, every copy picks up the change. Share pages show how many people and how many copies a fund has.
What's new, inside the app
New releases now show up as a small card in the app when you sign in. Dismiss it and it's gone for good. You'll only ever see announcements for things released after you joined.
Improved
Invested means net deposits
The grey Invested line on fund charts was really the cost basis of the shares you currently hold. Rebalance a fund and it would jump, because you sold old cheap lots and bought at today's price, and your lifetime return could flip from green to red without a dollar leaving your account. Invested is now the cash you've actually put in minus what you've taken out. Rebalances stay flat and get a dashed marker on the chart. Zakat and tax-lot cost are unchanged.
Recurring buys always visible
The dashboard's Scheduled Orders list only showed recurring buys between 4am and 9:30am ET, the window between when we materialize the day's order and when it executes. Check in the evening and the list was empty, which made a few of you think daily investing had stopped. It hadn't. Recurring plans are now listed with their next run at any time of day. We also fixed a bug where recurring plans created after June 23 couldn't be cancelled.
Chart zoom is remembered
Pick 1Y on any chart and it stays 1Y after a refresh, on that device. Phone and desktop remember separately.
Rebalance preview
The rebalance preview could get stuck behind a full-screen loading overlay if a live quote stalled. The modal now stays visible while the preview loads, times out after 15 seconds with a retry button, and falls back to recent cached quotes when the live feed is slow.
- Create fund is back on the dashboard and in the sidebar. It had been moved to the /funds workspace, which some of you couldn't find
- The Expert invest page now shows a preview card of what the custom fund builder produces instead of a line of small text
- Transfer out on the dashboard opens Alpaca's withdrawal page directly instead of the general banking page
- Stock logos are served through Amal now, with a ticker-in-a-circle fallback, so emails and holdings tables no longer show broken images (META, CRDO, and others)
- Long security names in the custom fund editor no longer overflow the search results
On the website
- A new Grow & Save performance page with year-to-date and long-term returns for FDGRX and VDADX, the funds behind the Standard plan. It updates automatically, so "how has Grow done since January" now has a live answer
- The genocide filters backtest was rerun through August 2026, almost seven years of data. The BDS filter cost almost nothing on the S&P 500 and helped on FDGRX. The broader Watermelon list cost about a quarter of returns on growth, mostly from losing Apple and NVIDIA
- The halal ETF comparison was rewritten as a decision guide with editorial verdicts per fund
- The 2026 Shariah compliance certificate is linked from the homepage, along with the yearly audit that keeps it current
Fixed
Rebalance buy-side failures
A user rebalanced three funds on August 10. Two completed. On the third, every sell filled and every buy was rejected for insufficient cash, leaving the proceeds sitting idle. Two causes: slice weights that summed to slightly over 100% produced a plan that needed more cash than the sells raised, and a single shortfall failed the entire buy leg. Rebalance plans are now cash-neutral by construction, and the buy leg scales to available cash instead of failing outright.
