Pies and syncing

Each Amal fund is one pie in your Trading 212 account. Amal updates the pie's holdings and weights every day. Depositing and investing stay inside Trading 212.

Key Takeaways

  • Pies are created once and updated daily, so they stay compliant as ratings change
  • Deposit into a pie in Trading 212 and its money is spread across the holdings
  • The dashboard Sync pies tile applies filter changes immediately
  • Amal never moves money. It only edits the pie's composition

The dashboard

After the first sync, the Trading 212 app in Amal opens on a dashboard of six tiles.

  1. Filters. Your screening rules.
  2. API Keys. Add, label, or delete keys.
  3. Sync pies. Apply your filters to every pie now. Shows the last run time.
  4. Account. Password, plan, default broker, two-factor authentication.
  5. Switch to Alpaca. Move to the full Amal Invest app.
  6. Refer and earn. $75 for each friend who joins.

What a pie looks like

In Trading 212, go to Pies. Each Amal pie is named after the fund and holds the compliant stocks with their target weights. Open it to deposit, set up an AutoInvest schedule, or see holdings.

Daily sync

Once a day Amal re-screens every holding, removes anything that failed, and rewrites the target weights. Trading 212 then rebalances the pie according to its own rules. New deposits follow the new weights immediately; existing positions move gradually unless you rebalance the pie in Trading 212.

To apply a filter change without waiting, press Sync pies on the dashboard. The tile reads Synced with the time when it is done.

Questions we get most

The dashboard has a FAQ tile with the full list. The short versions:

  • Self-balancing or by targets? Amal sets the targets. Trading 212's own pie settings decide whether it self-balances.
  • An excluded stock is still in my account. Amal edits the pie, not positions you hold outside it. Sell those yourself if you want them gone.
  • Why fewer than 50 holdings? Trading 212 caps pies at 50 and the filters remove some, so pies are usually smaller than the source fund.
  • A stock cannot be traded on Trading 212. Some tickers, such as TSM, are not available there. Amal skips them.
  • Moving from Invest to ISA. Add an API key for the ISA account and Amal creates the pies there too.

Common problems

Sync failed with an error. The error shows under the tiles. Most often the API key was revoked in Trading 212. Add a new key.

The pie was deleted in Trading 212. The next sync recreates it. Deposits into the old pie are not affected since Trading 212 turned them into regular positions.
